We hold our craft courses in places where potential beneficiaries can be found. For instance, our first course took place in the Ludoteca of the pediatrics ward of the regional hospital in which we already worked with parents accompanying their sick children to the hospital. The women (and men) participating in our crafts courses are taught how to create a variety of handmade accessories such as purses, shawls, and decorative articles that they can sell immediately.
A mother who participated in a course told us the following: "I arrived at the hospital with my sick son and I had no idea how I would be able to pay for his treatment. Now, I'm leaving with a healthy child, some money, and a profession!"
As a consequence of growing demand and the interest shown by the women in learning and working together, we founded our own Atelier Avanzar at the end of 2009.
